Frequently asked questions

Dress Code

Purpose:

Our dress code is important so the teaching staff can correctly see the lines of the dancer's body. If we cannot see these lines, we cannot be sure if the dancers are doing their technique properly.

Another big reason for our dress code is spotting. If a dancer is in acro class with yoga pants and a baggy tee shirt on, there is an increased likelihood of staff not being able to spot properly due to fabric slipping, etc. The dancers also become more concerned with the shirt falling over their head than on the technique and safety of their skill. By wearing proper dance attire, we avoid all of these concerns and can have a productive class.

What to wear:

For girls: Tights, leotards, sports bra + booty shorts, and proper dance shoes

For boys: Shorts or tighter sweat pants, a fitted t-shirt, and proper dance shoes.

Shoes:

Ballet- Pink ballet shoes, or black for boys.

Tap- Tap shoes.

Jazz- Tan Jazz shoes

Acro- Bare Feet

Lyrical- Tan Half Soles

Pom Pon- Jazz Shoes

Hip Hop- Shoes will be determined with costume

Hair:

Hair should be pulled up out of the face, no exceptions. We have hair ties at the front desk for 25 cents.

Pick Up & Drop Off

We ask that you please drop off no sooner than 10 minutes before class, and pick up no later than 10 minutes after class.

In the instance that a student needs to be picked up from a class early, please let front desk staff, or teacher know before class. Please do not tap on the classroom door or poke your head in to get your dancer. A staff member will do this for you!

Waiting area

All dance bags, shoes, coats, etc. belong in the waiting area. Please keep this area clean! If your dancer has a dinner break during the evening, please take it to the back room and do not eat on the carpeted area.

ABSCENCES

Please reach out to the studio if your dancer will be absent the day of their class. This helps significantly when planning classes for the day and choreography.

If your dancer is more than 10 minutes late to a 45 minute class, they will be counted as absent.

Makeup classes are available. Please check in with the front desk when you arrive to have attendance corrected. If you do not check in with the front desk, you will not get credit for the makeup class.

Stickers

We use stickers to reward the students on a job well-done in class. If we feel the need to not reward the students with stickers that day, we probably had a rough class. Some students may not receive a sticker due to their behavior or lack of participation. We may hand out bigger stickers to students who are extra good or answer questions correctly. If the stickers start to create issues in class, we will eliminate the sticker program.

Other rules & Misc. things:

- No gum, food, or candy in class.

- No dancers allowed in a dance room before class starts!

- No cell phones in the classroom.

- No water bottles in the classroom.

- No parents in class. This is a distraction to both students and staff.

- Put your dancer's name in their shoes, costumes, bags, etc.

weather policy

If Coldwater Public Schools are closed due to weather, the studio WILL NOT necessarily be closed. A lot of times the roads are cleared by the time class starts. Tune into Country 98.5FM or NBC Channel 8 after 2pm to see if the studio will be closed. You can also check our Facebook page.
